The Brief

Apply technology elements to create the Next Generation of in-home water dispensers that can easily integrate [IOT] with other smart-home technologies already on the market – such as Nest. The objective was to leverage technology to drive consumption in ways that conventional channels [retail] and methods [in home filtration] or brands [Brita, etc.] can’t quite deliver.  With the overarching brand strategy to drive Nestle health & wellness platform using new technology applications.

The Strategy

The technology strategy needed to improve the current dispensing system, adding layers that would deliver personalization and tracking tailored to every member of the home, customization through web applications, and control through integrated device management.  The main benefit of technology integration is the ability for the system to leverage machine learning: aggregate usage data to automate efficient reordering based on real-time consumption, as well as to send reminders and alerts based on individual health & wellness goals

The Outcomes

We delivered an entire technology strategy and digital ecosystem, as well as specific recommendations on components required to innovate the physical dispenser, for prototyping and testing. This led to the current “next generation / 2.0” system in place that can connect to other devices in house. Replenishment goals, duration of service, and customer satisfaction goals delivered according to Nestle Innovation Team business requirements.
